Fall on Cape Cod is magical. Cooler air, quieter streets, and changing foliage make it the perfect season to enjoy here with your pup. Once Labor Day passes, more spots open up for four-legged adventurers, giving you and your dog plenty of ways to explore together. Here are some of our favorite dog-friendly fall activities on Cape Cod.  

Go for a Scenic Fall Hike

Cape Cod has countless trails that are dog-friendly and even more enjoyable in crisp autumn weather.  

  • Barnstable Conservation Trails and Mashpee River Woodlands are local favorites with shaded paths, winding creeks, and plenty of leaves for your pup to romp through.  

  • Remember to bring a snack and a collapsible travel bowl with fresh water for longer hikes. Also, be aware most trails are on-leash only.  

Visit Dog-Friendly Beaches After Labor Day

Once summer crowds head home, many Cape beaches lift dog restrictions.  

  • In Hyannis, Craigville Beach is a popular off-season stroll.  

  • Further out, Skaket Beach in Orleans is a fall gem with wide tidal flats that dogs love to explore.  

  • Tip: Don’t forget a long line leash so your pup can safely enjoy the beach!  

Cozy Up at Dog-Friendly Cafés & Patios

Cooler weather allows for more outdoor dining with your pup. Grab a coffee (maybe a pumpkin latte for yourself) and relax while your pup lounges by your side.  

  • Many Hyannis and Mashpee cafés keep outdoor patios open for well-behaved dogs.
